Joan B. Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies University of Notre Dame
The Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies invites applications for Kroc Visiting Fellowships for one or both semesters of the academic year 2001-02. The Institute will offer fellowships to college and university faculty and professionals interested in contributing to research, writing, and teaching in areas of peace research of particular interest to the Institute.
Areas include
- The role of international norms and institutions in peacemaking
- Conflict resolution and post-conflict peacebuilding
- The meaning and impact of globalization
- Human rights and humanitarian assistance
- The promotion of social, economic and environmental justice.
In addition, the Kroc Institute has recently launched a Research Initiative on the Resolution of Ethnic Conflict (RIREC). RIREC will focus on the analysis and resolution of ethnic conflict, and on the dynamics of contemporary peace processes. Scholars working in these areas are particularly encouraged to apply for a visiting fellowship. Those who are interested in the role of religion in legitimating or resolving conflict should consult the Kroc Institute Program in Religion, Conflict and Peacebuilding and its Rockefeller Visiting Fellowships Program (www.nd.edu/~krocinst/rockefellervf.html).
Kroc Visiting Fellows participate in the Fellows' seminar, the Institute's lecture series, and other activities of the Institute and the University. The Institute provides Fellows with an office, library access, communications links, document retrieval services, and free housing in comfortable apartments located on the grounds of the Institute. Stipends are available for some applicants, but most fellows will need external funding during their visiting fellow status.
Applicants are also expected to have a doctorate or a professional postgraduate degree. Applications will begin to be reviewed by January 15, 2001 for positions beginning in late August 2001 or thereafter during the 2001-2002 academic year.
To apply for a fellowship, the applicant must send a five-to-seven-page description of his or her research project and timetable, a resume or curriculum vitae, two letters of recommendation, and a statement indicating whether or not the applicant seeks a stipend from the Kroc Institute.
