Awards Tech Museum of Innovation Application deadline (Nominations): June 1, 2001 The Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose, California, has announced a new international awards program designed to honor innovators worldwide for breakthrough technologies that improve the quality of life around the globe. The Tech Museum of Innovation Awards will recognize individuals and organizations that encourage the adoption of technological advances in health, education, the environment, economic development, and equality. In addition to global recognition, the awards will honor individuals or organizations with a $50,000 honorarium in each of five categories. Designed to advance the museum's mission to make technology understandable and available, the program is being administered through a partnership with the United Nations Development Program (www.undp.org/) and presenting sponsor Applied Materials. The awards are based on the fifteen global challenges identified in the1999 State of the Future report published by the UN Millennium Project. UNDP will disseminate the results of the awards to its constituencies around the world. The Tech Museum will also work in association with Santa Clara University's Center for Science, Technology and Society (www.scu.edu/sts), a global network of academic and industry experts dedicated to understanding and influencing how science and technology impact society. People around the world are invited to submit nominations of individuals (including themselves), companies, and nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations. Nominees will be reviewed and invited to apply based on the merits of their contribution. Complete applications will be due by July 1, 2001.
