University of Minnesota / Azerbaijan International University Honorary Professorship The Academic Council of Azerbaijan International University (AIU) decided recently to award Minnesota University Professor Darrel Lewis the title of "Honorary Professor of AIU". The doploma was handed by the President of the University, Doctor of Law Elshad Abdullayev. Contact Prof. Lewis at his email: lewis004@tc.umn.edu Partnership Partnership agreement between 150-year-old University of Minnesota and Azerbaijan International University is a three-year program that is funded by the United States Department of State that is intended to encourage faculty exchanges between the two universities focused upon a specific project of institutional development. The project is targeted upon the development of university based strategic planning and management information systems. Over the course of the next three years 14 faculty and administrators from AIU will come to the University of Minnesota as Visiting Scholars for short stays and at least five or six faculty will come from Minnesota to Baku for similar short term (at least one month) visits and interactions at AIU. The project is also intended to strengthen mutual knowledge and appreciation by both individuals and institutions about both countries and cultures. University of Minnesota also expects that several students might make applications for study in the United States, but the project does not provide funding for these purposes.
