Award
Media Save ArtJournalists worldwide have until June 30 to apply for the fourth Media Save Art Award, a biennial competition focusing on the journalists' role in preserving cultural heritage.
The award was created to encourage journalists to inform the public about dangers threatening culture, and the efforts needed to preserve it, according to the International Centre for the Study of Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM), which is funding the competition.
The prize winners for Best Article and Best Series will be awarded U.S.$4,000 each.
Journalists can send up to five entries for the competition. All must deal with the theme of safeguarding cultural heritage, including such topics as deterioration, preservation, conservation and restoration. ICCROM has defined cultural heritage to include museums, archives, libraries, monuments and historical and archaeological sites.
Articles must have been published between June 1, 1999 and May 31, 2001 in a newspaper or magazine for sale to the public. Submissions must also be accompanied by a 200-word summary, and must be written, or translated, into English or French.
