Local Initiative Grants Program
ACCELS and IREX
Deadline
December 31, 2000
Local Initiative Grants Program is open to ALL ALUMNI of US Government-sponsored exchange programs (JFDP, RSEP, Muskie/FSA, Undergrad, Contemporary Issues. FSA FLEX, unfortunately, are not eligible). This is an excellent grant, as it offers individuals up to $5,000 to fulfil a project of their choice (see attachments). It also allows Alumni to apply separately but as part of a larger project: three applicants, for example, might each be awarded $5,000, so collectively they could receive $15,000 for the fulfillment of a project. The guidelines are very broadly defined, so it is likely that almost any project, event, or need you might think of could be eligible for this grant.Seminar - ACCELS and IREX

Further, this will be an opportunity for you to share ideas, get ideas, and discuss strategies for applying to both the Local Initiative Grants Program, the ECA Small Grants Program, and/or to be in contact with other alumni and to receive FREE and USEFUL advice.
The ECA Small Grants Program is another excellent opportunity for you to receive a grant (up to $1,000) to host an event, join a professional organization, travel somewhere for professional development, and so forth. This program is also broadly defined and you are very much encouraged to apply. Details are also attached. Any questions you may have can be more specifically answered by Afet at IREX (97-75-02).
IREX is also administering an excellent grant to support development of electronic resources through the Information Resources and Dissemination Program (closing date, December 1).

ACCELS-Baku hopes to sponsor more activities for Alumni, including professional development, guest speaker series, and social hours. If you have ideas, expectations, or suggestions, please write, call, or come by the office. In late spring, with the Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan ACCELS offices, we hope to facilitate a conference here in Baku on themes related to Caspian Region Development. We need your input, ideas, the thoughts to make this happen. Let us know what type of conference you would like to see take place here in Baku. And if you would like to be one of the organizers, please come by to talk to Jeremy.
