Azerbaijan's Architects' Union is housed in a two-storied building in what might be called a national Romantic style. The building's exterior is uniquely characterized by ornate stalactite arches above the windows on the corners of the second floor-a design reminiscent of the ornamental façade above the entrance of the Shirvanshah Palace in Baku's Old City.
The interior of the building is highly ornate. Distinct from most other buildings, the designer had a penchant for bright Kelly green. Both the front entrance and side entrance to this building are built upon green. The walls and ceilings in the vestibules leading to the doorway inside the front entrance are highly ornate and Oriental in style.
In the side entrance there are beautiful murals that line the walls along the stairway. Of particular charm are the naïve paintings of cherubs-who appear so innocent and carefree. Don't forget to take a look at the treatment of windows above the doorways.
This building is accessible. You may quietly and respectfully enter the hallways in both the front and side entrances. Please refrain from interrupting or disturbing office workers at the Architect's Union-front entrance, or those employed in the private offices located upstairs, which are accessed by the side door.
