New Faces / New Places

Bohdan Nahajlo is the new Representative in Baku for the United Nations High Commis-sioner for Refugees (UNHCR). He replaces Didier Laye.

Nahajlo graduated from the University of Leeds (U.K.) in International History and Politics in 1974. He took his Masters (with Distinction) from the University of Manitoba, in Winnipeg, Canada, in 1975.

Then he went on to study for a Doctorate in Soviet Studies, Politics and History at the London School of Economics in London. His languages include English, Ukrainian, French, Polish and Russian.

Nahajlo has been working with the UNHCR since 1994, first as Senior Policy Adviser at the Regional Bureau for Europe in Geneva (1994-96). Then he was appointed Senior Research Officer at the Centre for Documentation and Research (1996-1998) and the CIS Conference Unit (1998-1999), both located at the UNHCR Headquarters in Geneva. Most recently, he has served in Minsk, Belarus, as the Head of the UNHCR Liaison Office (1999-2002).
