Broadway
in Baku" is the theme for American Voices' fifth musical
project in Azerbaijan, happening February 17-23, 2001. The organization
will spend six days preparing a full-length concert version of
Leonard Bernstein's "West Side Story", which will be
performed February 23 with 12 Azerbaijani singers and the Music
Academy's Orchestra. Participating American artists include conductor
David Handel, John Ferguson and Ira Spaulding.
Sponsors include the U.S. Embassy, Unocal, Chevron, ExxonMobil,
Lufthansa and Radisson Hotel.
